Milestones are important as they give us benchmarks of our progress – or lack thereof. This week there has been widespread reporting that the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) concentrations in our atmosphere reached 400 ppm (parts per million). This is a 40% increase in the last century – an unprecedented rate of change.
These charts show a steady increase since the industrial revolution of the 1800′s, fueling by burning fossil fuels in factories, power plants and automobiles. The acceleration since 1950 is a function of population growth from 3 billion to 7 billion people today on the planet.
The past does not have to become our fate. Solutions exist today – but we must initiate the transition at an unprecedented rate.
The GENI Initiative advocates the linking of renewable energy resources around the world. There’s an abundance of solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, biomass and ocean energies on our planet — more than humanity could ever use. We need to interconnect them between all nations.
GENI interns and staff have produced reports for nearly all OECD nations on how each could become 100% renewable. This is achievable as 6 nations are now 70%+ renewable. Norway and Iceland are 100%.
For the sake of future generations, we ask that you get involved. This is one issue where every individual can do something. It’s the issue we all must work on together to change course.
In partnership for the planet,
P.S. GENI is currently the only USA exhibitor at the World Energy Conference in South Korea in October. We invite you to support our booth: http://www.geni.org/globalenergy/donors/enroll/pledge.shtml
