Business Leaders Support President Obama’s Plan to Reduce Carbon Pollution

On Tuesday, President Obama laid out his plan to reduce carbon pollution—just like we have for other toxins like mercury and arsenic—so we protect the health of our children, move our economy toward American-made clean energy sources that will create good jobs and lower energy bills, and begin to slow the effects of climate change. The plan was immediately met with broad support from business leaders across a broad array of industries. Here’s a quick look at what they’re saying:

Save the Environment – How to Be Green With Solar Energy

Although we’re a long way from building our own Dyson Sphere to run our civilization completely from solar energy, the technologies exist for both small-scale and large-scale harnessing of solar energy. There are at least four easy ways that you can use solar energy to power your home and your portable devices, and each has its merits and drawbacks. There is some initial investment, but my guess is that if you are reading this, you are already interested in solar energy for its environmental benefits and not strictly for its capacity to save you money. There is also good reason to support solar energy standards in our country. Here are some easy ways that you can go solar:

115 U.S. Ski Areas Seek Climate Change Action From Congress

Ski areas from 24 states have signed the Climate Declaration, which calls on U.S. federal policymakers and legislators to seize the economic opportunity of addressing climate change.
These 115 ski areas join Climate Declaration founding signatory Aspen Snowmass and 40 other American businesses, including General Motors, Nike and Levi Strauss & Co., as well as Ceres, a coalition of large investors, companies and public interest groups, in declaring that a bold response to the climate challenge is “one of America’s greatest economic opportunities of the 21st century.”

While Natural Gas does not burn as clean as biofuel, it is a viable interim option. It burns significantly cleaner than gasoline and every vehicle we convert to compressed natural gas (CNG) reduces our dependence on foreign oil. There must be jobs for Americans in this equation as well, and I find merits in this potential as long as no damage it done to the environment in the extraction process. When more of our commercial and municipal vehicles run on CNG we will have made a positive step forward. The conversion of combustion engines to burn CNG is a fairly inexpensive and easy transition to make and our air will not be polluted as quickly. As we are evolving to electric vehicles and away from internal combustion engines, CNG provides a good transitional step forward. The following is from Energy.gov.
