Clean Energy: Microgrids Are Beginning To Move Into the Mainstream

The number of microgrids and planned microgrid projects is growing. North America claims 66 percent of the microgrids that are planned, proposed and deployed. Combined, these figures give North America microgrid capacity of 2,505 MW. The current online capacity is 1,459 MW and more than 1,122 MW is in the planning, under development or proposed phase. Microgrids can be found in communities, on military bases, on the grounds of universities and they can be commercially owned and operated.
