Since the Jerry Sandusky scandal, Penn State University has suffered. But things are changing, for the better. While attending my daughter’s boyfriend’s graduation a few weeks ago I realized that PSU has much going for it, despite all the negative publicity. Of course Sandusky deserves to be where he is–in jail for a long time. Much good is going on here at the school’s main campus as well as its satellite compuses.

Clean Energy: Microgrids Are Beginning To Move Into the Mainstream

The number of microgrids and planned microgrid projects is growing. North America claims 66 percent of the microgrids that are planned, proposed and deployed. Combined, these figures give North America microgrid capacity of 2,505 MW. The current online capacity is 1,459 MW and more than 1,122 MW is in the planning, under development or proposed phase. Microgrids can be found in communities, on military bases, on the grounds of universities and they can be commercially owned and operated. They are increasingly important to grid stabilization and distributed generation. The following is from a recent Navigant Research report.

Southern Africa has the potential to achieve universal access to modern energy services if the region puts in place a sound and vibrant strategy to harness its huge renewable energy resources.Meeting in Maseru, Lesotho, the 33rd SADC Energy Ministers meeting said the development of a renewable energy strategy will, among other things, ensure that the Southern African Development Community is able to effectively manage and exploit the natural resources that are in abundance in the region.
