For many years fossil fuels such as coal and oil have formed the basis of our energy consumption. However, in the last few years people have become aware of what effect the constant burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil can do to our environment and want a cleaner, greener future. The clear choice is alternative solar energy because this type of energy is self-renewing and doesn’t create any pollution. The sun actually produces enough energy to power the universe fully. Then why is everybody not using alternative solar energy to power his or her homes? The main reason is that the technology is too expensive at this moment, but as new technologies develop and fossil fuels become more scarce and expensive, people will realise that clean energy is a much cheaper and viable option.

Alternative solar energy is the perfect choice for making full use of the sun’s power. As long as the sun is bright enough to read a book or write your journal, it is actually bright enough to radiate alternative solar energy. Lots of people only think that solar energy can be utilized as a power source in places where it is hot and constantly sunny. This is not really the case – it does not really matter how hot it is, you just require the brightness of the sun for this energy alternative. Solar heating works in cold regions as there is still some brightness from the sun.

As stated above a enormous amount of energy is available in the sun’s rays, however it is difficult to make use of this energy to its full potential due to the high costs needed in introducing a new technology. There is a huge amount of research and development going into finding ways to convert solar energy into electrical energy. The current system that is in place is not affordable for many people, and the process of turning solar energy into electrical energy currently means that energy is in fact lost in the process. If you are keen in using alternative solar energy and plan to introduce it slowly into your forms of energy consumption, you can. You could set up a solar collector on your roof and this will absorb enough of the sun’s rays to heat up water. The hot water can be stored in a tank and used for cooking and showers.

Another way that you can make use of alternative solar energy is by using a solar collector to heat your pool. Many people install a solar collector on the roof of their garage or pool-changing shed and you can heat your pool by harnessing the sun’s rays, hence allowing you to swim in your pool during the colder months as well without getting a chill.

In summary there are many alternative solar energy technologies that are available to help cut down on the amount of fossil fuels consumed. However suppliers of conventional fuel and electricity are not in favour of alternative energy options as they view them as not viable economically.  It is up to you to choose if you want to continue to use conventional fossil fuels and damaging the environment in the long run, or are willing to make changes to your current energy consumption and stay in a green, clean world free of terrible pollutants.
